Interventions
According to the
2000 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, an estimated 4.7 million
people needed treatment for an illicit drug abuse problem. The numbers
swell when you consider gambling, eating disorders and other addictions.
Unfortunately, most
people that are in need of treatment will not seek help which translates
into millions of people eventually dying without seeking help.
Intervention could
be the answer.
A trained professional
coordinates friends, family and sometimes, co-workers to facilitate
this process. Intervention is a carefully crafted process that directs
a non-compliant person towards help and treatment.
The interventionist
then works out arrangements for admission to a facility and will accompany
them to the treatment center.
